6 week countdown – My Birth Prep Story
I thought I would write a quick pre-pregnancy check in of my journey so far with Caron and the Wise Hippo programme. There are a lot of testimonials after the birth but nothing about how the mums felt in the run up.
My husband and I have just had our penultimate session with Caron and we are so excited and getting very impatient about our impending arrival. Before I was pregnant there was nothing more scary to me than the thought of giving birth but now, with 6 weeks to go, I feel ready and actually looking forward to the challenge of birthing our little lady into the world. After each session with Caron we watch the birthing video and get emotional as we are confident and relaxed about the upcoming event. During the programme with Caron our confidence has grown so much we are now planning to bring our baby into the world at home into our environment, if all goes well.
Not only has the programme prepared me for birth but it has also brought us together as a couple. I found being pregnant quiet a dividing thing for my husband and I, as a woman you’re immediately a Mum and you have to make sacrifices, becoming a Dad is a more gradual process and it won’t come into full fruition until they hold their new love in their arms. Doing the course together has helped my husband bond with the baby and be on the journey with me.
I also wanted to mention my Blessingway as it was an event along my journey that was an incredible experience. It boosted my confidence in bringing my bundle of joy into my world by knowing what incredible support I have in my life. A Blessingway is a type of baby shower, it celebrates the transition into motherhood rather than the baby that isn’t here yet and that sat better with me. My closest friends and family came to my home and we started with a blessing & sound healing meditation from my incredible friend Carly Grace, I then began to have my bump hennared by the super talented TropicalBird, whilst this was happening we began the bead ceremony. This is where your friends all bring a bead that represents them and you make a necklace to take into your labour with you – I sat through this getting painted and sobbing the happiest of tears as my amazing friends retold stories of how we had met and wished me and the baby the loveliest blessings. Once my bump was beautified my friends also got hennared, we ate cake and they drank bubbles and wrote out their crazy funny versions of birth affirmations for me.
I now go into my birth in a blessed room at home where all my best friends have shown their support, where their kind and funny words are hanging on the wall and I have a beautiful necklace of love & support. Let’s do this baby! Watch this space for the next bit about how it all goes in reality! Thanks Caron for getting us this far x
